At LCCF, we believe strong nonprofits are essential to building a thriving Lake County. That’s why our Leadership Development and Capacity Building Programming is designed to support both organizations and the people who lead them.

Through these opportunities, we work to:

  • Foster stability and resilience so nonprofits can adapt and thrive in changing times
  • Cultivate a robust, equitable leadership pipeline that truly reflects the diversity of our community
  • Encourage cross-sector collaboration to maximize resources and impact
  • Strengthen the overall nonprofit ecosystem, creating a more effective and equitable network of organizations ready to serve our neighbors

By investing in nonprofit leaders and organizations today, we are helping to shape a stronger, more connected and more resilient Lake County for tomorrow.

In the summer of 2024, LCCF, in collaboration with local partners, surveyed nonprofits across Lake County and held a focus group to better understand the sector’s most pressing leadership development and capacity-building needs.

Leadership Development

  • The Lake County Nonprofit Executive Director Roundtable - a multi-faceted initiative designed to strengthen connections, promote collaboration and encourage resource sharing among nonprofit executive directors in Lake County. Read the one-pager for more information.
    • LC Nonprofit Executive Directors Listserv - an email listserv for executive directors to connect, ask questions, brainstorm and share resources. Sign up HERE. The signup form will remain open and new participants will be added to the listserv on a rolling basis.
  • Equity Working Group - a collective of nonprofit executive directors and decision-makers committed to achieving institutional change through equitable policies, practices, processes and cultural shifts within their organizations. Read the one-pager for more information.
  • Leadership Development Grants - LCCF funds projects that provide quality leadership development opportunities for cohorts of nonprofit leaders throughout the sector.
    • Since the 2025 Leadership Development grants were disbursed in November 2025, we will not reopen this priority area in Spring 2026. Instead, they will reopen in Spring 2027. While it may seem like we are skipping these priority areas, this is simply a six-month delay to align with our spendable balance requirements.
  • Lake County Leadership Development Program - The Kellogg School Center for Nonprofit Management, in partnership with the Lake County Community Foundation and College of Lake County Foundation, offered three one-day nonprofit leadership programs to Lake County in 2026.
