The Foundation's Charitable Gift Funds
Each donor who comes to The Lake County Community Foundation has unique philanthropic goals—from wanting to support a specific cause or organization to finding a less restrictive alternative to a private foundation. Whatever your client's philanthropic objectives, we can help them create an effective strategy with our charitable gift funds.
Donors are not constrained to fit their charitable vision within the bounds of just one of the Foundation's funds. We merely use these giving vehicles as "building blocks" that can be used singly or in combination with one another. All of the Foundation's giving vehicles enjoy maximum tax advantages and many provide your client with considerable input.
Donor Advised Funds
A donor advised fund can be established with as little as $10,000. It enables donors to create a named fund and actively participate in grant making. Donor advised funds can be efficient alternatives to private family foundations.
Supporting Organizations
With a minimum of $3 million, your client can set up a supporting organization. Ideal as an alternative to a private family foundation, a supporting organization receives more favorable tax treatment and fewer restrictions. When donors establish a supporting organization, they and the Foundation's Board of Advisors appoint a board of directors to oversee it.
Unrestricted Endowment
Donors who contribute to unrestricted funds enable the Foundation to respond quickly and creatively to Lake County's most pressing challenges. While donor input is limited, these funds compose some of the Foundations more important resources.
Restricted Funds
Your client may dedicate a restricted fund to a specific issue of concern in the community. The Foundation's Board of Advisors distributes income from restricted funds to charities that address your client's community concerns.
Designated Funds
Donors use designated funds to support a particular charitable organization or organizations in perpetuity. The Foundation ensures that the designated recipients receive grants as long as they remain in existence and continue to fulfill their intended charitable purpose.
Field of Interest Funds
Your client can pool charitable gifts with other concerned area residents in one of the Foundation's Field of Interest Funds. Gifts of any size are welcome.
Agency Endowments
Agency endowments are special funds created by not-for-profit organizations to ensure a steady and reliable income source. This enables charities to plan the future with confidence, seize new opportunities and meet emerging needs as they arise.
